In response to certain un-named political changes in 2024, Calo hired a full-time behavior psychologist for the Rhizome Center to support those deported to Mexico. Countless folks received trauma- based support, proactive counseling and guidance to reconnect with family and rebuild their lives.
Calo’s ties to the art community goes deep. As a sponsor of events like Aparador, Plataforma, Tengo Rojo and Temporal, we ensure that we are fostering a developing art scene throughout Guadalajara, Mexico and among the Mexican- American community. On a regular basis, we offer an artist in residence scholarship where we give a direct grant to help those in positions where financial barriers limit their ability to create.

Cinco de Mayo (please do not say Cinco de Drinko) is not a Mexican holiday, nor is it an American holiday of relevance. However, to the Chicano community, it is a representation of the gray area, the in-between of cultures. To the deported community, it is an homage to L.A. culture and feeling between worlds. We sponsor Cinco de Mayo’s family- friendly celebration every year and hang with our favorite cholos and pachucos.

Pro- bono work is how we get nonprofits from 0 to 1, so change makers have the initial tools necessary to move the needle. We offer free Google Grants management for four different non-profit organizations, and whenever we have free minutes, do our best to offer thought leadership, visual guidelines, creative support, technical management and anything else within our capabilities to magnify the work of others.
